BODY LANGUAGE- Most Powerful tool of Communication

When Abraham Maslow said Behavior in the human being is sometimes a defense, a way of concealing motives and thoughts, as language can be a way of hiding your thoughts and preventing communication, he was ensuring the need to develop the necessary upliftments in body language…

Just imagine a planet where you are the only creature!

• How would you feel?

• With whom would you communicate?

A world without communication will be just as living in solitude.

Body Language

Communication is fundamental to the survival and existence of all humans. It is the means to transfer one’s feelings, thoughts, and emotions, through verbal or non-verbal means. And the most important tool of communication is neither spoken nor written.

It is BODY LANGUAGE that is a form of Non-Verbal Communication. It is opposed to words i.e. communication without words. It is the easiest way of expressing your feelings.

Relying on the first impression is not worth it if you want to know someone better!!!

About

Body language is knowingly or unknowingly used in our day-to-day conversation. There was only non-verbal communication before we had speech. These are the signals which one transmits to the other person to communicate. But sometimes we do not realize what we are saying about ourselves. Sometimes our body language expresses the things which we do not want to.

Put simply, body language is the unspoken element of communication that we use to reveal our true feelings and emotions.

It's the relaxed facial expression that breaks out into a genuine smile – with mouth upturned and eyes wrinkled. It can be a tilt of the head that shows you're listening, sitting or standing upright to convey interest, or directing attention with hand gestures. It can also be taking care to avoid a defensive, arms-crossed posture, or restlessly tapping your feet.

“Gestures are a contemplation of spoken words.”

Body Language

Comprehending the decoding and encoding of body language is essential. Decoding means to understand other non-verbal communication, however, encoding means to convey our message through gestures and expression. Understanding and sending these clues and expressions to convey the proper message is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Importance

Communication is far beyond words and content. Haptics, communicating through touch, is another aspect of non-verbal communication. Touch can be used to express our affection or antipathy. The major share i.e. 93% of our perception is created from non-verbal communication.

It is a vast concept. It includes subtle maneuvers like:

• Body posture,

• Facial expressions,

• Body movement,

• Eye movement,

• Tone, pitch, and inflection of voice

• Touch and a lot more.

There are a few keystones of communication. The major percentage (55%) is acquired by visual communication i.e. body language in unison with 38% of vocal communication i.e. tonality and inflection and a minor percentage (7%) of verbal communication i.e. spoken words.

While communicating with somebody, our body language is trusted more than our words. To exemplify, if someone responds “I am fine, thank you” to a simple question “How are you?” with a long, dull face and, without eye contact, then, the other one automatically understands that there is something wrong. If our words do not coordinate with our gestures, tone, pitch, body language then the listeners will most probably believe our nonverbal way of communicating.

Influence

Body language is an essential aspect of contemporary communications and associations. It depicts the method of communicating using expressions and movements-be its facial expressions, eye movement, eyebrow movement, lip movement, slight movements, or expressions. It is essential to heed our non-verbal communication too. Body language has a great impact on our society as well as our professional circle.

Facial expressions alone can convey your like or dislike for something or anything. The movement of hands and fingers enhances communication. Eye and lip movements are the keys to beginning a conversation, as they are deeply involved in the facial expressions. The way of expression may be distinct from individual to individual, and it also varies in different cultures, communities, and nationalities.

“One who can observe non-verbal communication can read the person’s brain.
